November Fun Stuff
It has been a shockingly long time since I have written in my blog, but I do want a record of my time here so I will go back now and write about the last few months.__________in November I had three fun weekends in a row. Firstly my bible study did a “busy bee” aka a work party to help Sarah and Emma with their garden (yard). Sarah had hurt her knee and Emma has a bad back so doing yard work was hard for them. It was a fun day, although we didn’t get much done. I have never been the gardener type and neither where the other 3 who showed up. We all worked with a will, but did not seem to make much progress. Then after lunch David Rowbottom (my pastor) and his 80 year old dad, Peter, came and they are both gardening men. Wow, they left us in the dust. I had not realized before that knowing how to garden really makes a difference.________the next weekend was thanksgiving. Last year when I had Melanie (who is Canadian) helping me we did a full on thanksgiving dinner. This year I decided to do a simpler version. I became aware that almost none of my friends here had ever seen the movie It’s A Wonderful Life! I told them how growing up we often would make turkey sandwiches thanksgiving night and watch it. So that is what we did. Sarah and Emma hosted. I roasted a turkey in the morning and we all made pies; pumpkin, apple and berry. Then in the evening everyone in the bible study came over and we made monster turkey sandwiches and watched the movie. Everyone liked the movie. Two of our guys, Richard and Kafunda, said that it was the first black and white flick they had ever seen!_______________the next weekend the fun continued with a joint birthday party for Sarah and Leonie. From watching the show Cake Boss Leonie had been wanting to try a Red Velvet cake and I said I would make her one for you birthday. I had to make one big enough for this large party and it turned about really well if I do say so myself. However, the frosting was too sweet. I kinda went crazy with the colouring, so it was a very bright cake indeed. With bright yellow frosting decorated with primary green and red! Everything went well until the ceiling fan over the table where the birthday girls were sitting blew out all the candles before they could. ___________ it was kind of nice to have nothing to do the next weekend.
